2023 SPRING ELECTIONS

Calendar

May 1st through May 4th

  • Nominations and confirmation of candidates. Candidates may submit electronic statements of 100 words or less and a picture for each position.

May 5th-7th

  • On-line ballot/survey is prepared. Electronic statements and candidate pictures are posted at the website and distributed via email.

May 8 through May 11 (4 work days)

  • Members vote and complete a survey online. Voting closes at 4 p.m. on May 11.

Description of Positions:  OHEA Officers and Executive Board Members

President

  • The President shall preside over meetings of the Executive Board, and the Representative Council, appoint chairpersons and members of standing committees with the approval of the Representative Council, appoint special committees, and be an ex-officio member of all standing committees, and shall be the executive officer of the Association. The President shall work a minimum of 637 hours per year on Association business, and shall keep an accurate log including (a) date, (b) time spent and (c) brief description of action. This information shall be available for review upon request by delegates at each Rep Council meeting.

  • Additionally, current duties include--but are not limited to--attending school board, UniServ, and WEA meetings and trainings, acting as a spokesperson of the Association, writing and responding to print and electronic correspondence, and recruiting members for participation in internal and external Association activities. The President processes leave-sharing requests, assists building Reps and members with issues, monitors and assures that dues monies are being spent according to the budget, and keeps a daily log in accordance to WEA-mandated, agency fee reporting requirements. The President represents all members at monthly contract maintenance meetings with the Superintendent and the Human Resources Director, conducts building-wide climate surveys, arranges for training, prepares agendas, and holds elections. The President coordinates grievances, bargaining and political action efforts, writes the OHEA Notes, updates and enforces the Association’s governance documents, and maintains the Association’s records

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning on August 1 of the current year and ending on July 31 of the following year for any incumbent. For newly-elected presidents, the first term is two years, beginning on August 1 of the current year and ending on July 31 in two years.

  • Receives $8 per member per month not to exceed .5 of his or her gross pay plus benefits and taxes.

OHEA Officers: Vice President

  • The Vice President shall assist the President and/or President-elect in their duties and assume the responsibilities and duties of the President and/or President-elect in their absence or at their request.

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning on August 1 of the current year and ending on July 31 of the following year.

  • Receives $2000 for the elected term ($1000 in December and $1000 in June). The Vice President speaks for the Association at most School Board meetings, writes reports and attends contract maintenance meetings.

  • Position currently held by Glenda Jackson (CHE).

OHEA Officers: Treasurer

  • The Treasurer shall hold the funds of the Association and disburse them, in accordance with the annual budget. The Treasurer shall distribute membership forms and collect the membership dues from the membership working with the district office business department, and transmit amounts due to the WEA. The Treasurer shall maintain a roll of the members. The Treasurer shall keep accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements, shall report to each meeting of the Representative Council, and shall prepare an annual financial statement for publication to members as directed by the Executive Board. The Treasurer shall assist the Budget Committee in the initial drafting of the annual budget.

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning September 1 of the current year and ending on August 31 of the following year.

  • Receives $40 for attendance at each meeting of the Executive Board and the Rep Council, plus one day released time or equivalent in compensation for one day’s substitute’s cost each month.

 OHEA Officers: Secretary

  • The Secretary shall maintain files and be responsible for keeping accurate minutes and disseminating copies to involved members of all Executive Board, Representative Council, and General meetings.

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning September 1 of the current year and ending on August 31 of the following year.

  • Receives $40 for attendance at each meeting of the Executive Board and the Rep Council.

  • Position currently held by Nicole Bouvion (ASC).

OHEA Executive Board: All Positions

  • It shall be the duty of the Executive Board to carry out the program and policies of the Representative Council and to exercise the general authority of the Representative Council between its meetings, and other authority as directed by the Representative Council. The Board shall have the authority to interpret the Constitution and By-Laws. The Board shall develop and adopt standing rules for the Board, committees, and commissions, and assume duties as Representative Council directs. The Board shall recommend a set of, and amendments to a set of, standing rules for adoption by the Representative Council.

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning September 1 of current year and ending on August of following year.

  • Receives $40 for attendance at each meeting of the Executive Board and the Rep Council.

Executive Board Member: K-1 Elementary

  • Eligibility guidelines: any Classroom Teacher of grades K-1 children. In the case of a split grade, the member could choose for which position to run. For example, a 1/2 teacher could run for the K-1 Elementary Member position or the 2-4 Elementary Member position, but not both within the same election.

  • Position currently held by Christina Hwang (HCE).

Executive Board Member: 2-4 Elementary

  • Eligibility guidelines: any Classroom Teacher of grades 2-4 children. In the case of a split grade, the member could choose for which position to run. For example, a 1/2 teacher could run for the K-1 Elementary Member position or the 2-4 Elementary Member position, but not both within the same election.

  • Position currently held by Lori Sandberg (OVE).

 Executive Board Member: Intermediate School

  • Eligibility guidelines: any Classroom Teacher of grades 5-6 children.

  • Position currently held by Troy Cowan (OHI).

Executive Board Member: Middle School

  • Eligibility guidelines: any Classroom Teacher of any discipline of grades 7-8 children, except Special Ed or Special Services Teachers.

  • Position currently held by Jennifer Gorder-Bryan (NWMS).

Executive Board Member: High School

  • Eligibility guidelines: any Classroom Teacher of any discipline of grades 9-12 children, except Special Ed or Special Services Teachers.

  • Position currently held by Erica Schulle (OHHS).

Executive Board Member: Special Education

  • Eligibility guidelines: any member who holds an educational staff associate (ESA) certificate and/or a special education endorsement and who is currently providing special education services. Members who are eligible for this position include School Psychologists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, Educational Specialists, Occupational Therapists, and Special Education Teachers.

  • Position currently held by Susan Letson (OHHS).

Executive Board Member: Special Services

  • Eligibility guidelines: any member who is not a general education classroom teacher and who is not a special education teacher or provider. Members who are eligible for this position include Counselors, Chapter-Title 1/LAP Teachers, the Home Connection Teacher, Librarians, the English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher, and Elementary Specialists (such as Music, Art, and P.E.).

  • Position currently held by Jo Grunewald (OHHS).

Executive Board Member: Education Staff Associate

  • Eligibility guidelines: any member who is a Education Staff Associate as defined by Office of Superintendent. Members who are eligible for this position include Counselors, Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapist, SLPs, Physical Therapist and Mental Health Counselors.

 Description of Positions:  4th Corner UniServ Council Delegate

UniServ Delegate (6 Elected Positions Plus OHEA President)

  • Individuals elected represent OHEA at the six meetings of the 4th Corner UniServ in Mt. Vernon beginning in September of the current year and ending in June of the following year.

  • Term of Office is one year, beginning September of the current year and ending on August 31 of the following year.

  • Receives $40 for attendance at each meeting, mileage, and dinner.

  • Delegates either submit a written report or give an oral report to Rep Council.

  • Current UniServ Delegates are Amber Hagel (HCE), Brandi Duda (OVE), Danielle Atkins (OHI), Allison Turner (OHHS), Micki Gifford (NWMS), Susan Letson (OHHS), Mike Fisher (OHHS).
